Multnomah Food Action Plan Celebration
On January 27th, over 150 individuals and organizations joined the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners to celebrate the adoption of the Multnomah Food Action Plan.
The Celebration was a wonderful showing of community support for a local, healthy, equitable, and prosperous food system for our region.
The board unanimously adopted the resolution supporting the Multnomah Food Action Plan before the floor was opened to a short program led by Chair Jeff Cogan giving the welcoming address.
Many community partners announced commitments to develop new and exciting projects that align within the Plan, including:
An Economic Opportunity Analysis for the regional Foodshed (in partnership with Clackamas County)
Establishing a Farmer Incubation Network (in development with numerous partners)
Launching the Beginning Urban Farmer Apprenticeship (BUFA) Program (in partnership with OSU Extension)
Convening a Council of Institutional Purchasers (in development)
and many more!
Stay tuned for more information on partnerships and projects including the Second Annual Multnomah Food Summit to be hosted by Multnomah County this Summer, 2011. The Second Annual Food Summit will build upon the efforts of the first Food Summit held in 2010 which convened food system stakeholders to develop the Multnomah Food Action Plan. This summer we will be working towards implementation of the Plan - let's see it come to life!
